Home of the Week: Inside Cartoonist Ranan Lurie’s $28 Million NYC Retreat on Central Park

15 Central Park West is among Manhattan’s most iconic luxury residential buildings, magnificently designed by Robert A. M. Stern and completed in 2008. With its commanding 36th floor Central Park views, cartoonist Ranan Lurie’s sprawling 3200 square foot home recently hit the market with an asking price of $28 million.

15 Central Park West, Unit 36D is a three-bedroom plus library and gallery condo and was the pride and joy of the legendary Israeli-American, who passed away last June and whose political cartoons depicted hundreds of world leaders, from Barack Obama to Benjamin Netanyau. According to the New York Times, Ranan’s work appeared in a record-breaking 1,000 publications with 100 million readers in 100 countries.(1)

The home is being listed by Compass agent Danielle Lurie, who is Ranan’s daughter. Danielle explains, “My father found Central Park to be an incredible art piece and wanted to have it framed by as many windows as possible within his home.”(2) To achieve this, Ranan reconfigured the home’s original layout, removing walls and replacing them with panels of glass for panoramic park views along the entire eastern and northern wings.

The western wing faces Lincoln Center and the Hudson River, offering beautiful sunset water views. This stellar combination affording 270 degree views of Manhattan’s most prime landscapes is highly prized and rare, and the home stands as a testament to a life well-lived. With her father no longer with us, Danielle says, “it is time to find the next owner who will find as much magic in this space as my parents did.”(3)
