Paradero Homes: Redefining Luxury Living Through Nature and Sustainability
Nestled in one of Mexico’s most breathtaking landscapes, Paradero Homes was designed by acclaimed architect Gabriela Carrillo. Recipient of the Emerging Voices Award, the Federico Mariscal Chair, and the Médaille d'OR from the French Academy of Architecture, Carillo created a development that embraces sustainability, simplicity, and a deep connection to the land. In this exclusive Q&A, Compass Luxury sat down with the architect to uncover the inspiration behind Paradero Homes and how it offers a new perspective on what luxury living truly means.
Can you tell us about the inspiration behind the design elements of Paradero homes?
The design was inspired by the natural elements that surround this property. From the sea to the mountains, the landscapes invite you to unplug. The crops offer wellness and the rawness of the dessert calls you to stillness. All details were taken into consideration, from the orientation of the sun to the direction of the winds. The architecture itself plays with light and shadow, transforming under the sun as the day goes on. This property calls you to simplicity in a way that redefines what luxury means.
Luxury and sustainability often feel like competing priorities, but Paradero Homes seems to balance both seamlessly. Can you talk about the choices you made to achieve this balance in the architecture and materials?
We chose a single material, concrete, crafted as a contemporary stone using earth from the very land it stands on. This same earth was also used to shape the surrounding topography, creating a deep connection between the property and its environment. To me, true luxury is about embracing what is naturally available, using handcrafted walls that are not only unique but also develop a rich patina over time, making them timeless.
Situated amongst the region's largest no-till farm, a renowned hotel, and a Michelin Guide restaurant, what sets Paradero Homes apart from other luxury developments, both locally and globally?
What sets Paradero apart is its deeply intentional approach to architecture. Paradero believes in the transformative power of space, achieved through simplicity and elements we’ve often forgotten in urban environments. It embraces a concept of primitive luxury, which, to me, represents the true future of luxury.
Designed with luxury buyers in mind, how does Paradero Homes meet a growing demand in the luxury market, and what specific needs does it fulfill for discerning residents seeking a connection to nature?
Paradero’s approach to future living is truly unique. It seamlessly integrates the expansive scale of the land, high-quality amenities, thoughtfully curated experiences, and locally sourced materials. By embracing diverse ways of inhabiting the land while remaining sensitive to the surrounding environment, Paradero creates a living experience that is deeply connected to its extraordinary setting.
